Dizzy 1/8 Bootleg + ComparisonDizzy 1/8 Bootleg + ComparisonReview

jefffuuujefffuuu7 år sedan
Hello everyone, Jeff here! This is my first review / comparison, well more like a comparison because it isn’t as elaborate as a full-on review. Today, I will be examining one of Alter’s hottest figures of 2011, literally and MFC’s 17th hottest figure. This is none other than Dizzy from Guilty Gear XX Λ Core! And along with her is her sister… bootleg Dizzy! (FYI Dizzy actually doesn’t have a sister).
The bootleg Dizzy was bought on Ebay from a Hong Kong dealer by a friend for $50, shipping included. Unfortunately, she fell in the trap of cheap figure sales like so many people in this dire world of the figure industry. She was kind enough as to shove the figure onto my hands without hesitation when I asked her if I could use it. The authentic Dizzy was also bought on Ebay for $90, used but in an excellent state, shipping included, also with the clarification of authenticity by the seller.
Enough with the intro, let’s get started, shall we?

Key:
Left: Bootleg
Right: Authentic

Above are the boxes containing two completely different figures, quality-wise. Through immediate impression, one can easily distinguish that the left one is the bootleg Dizzy, considering it has a damaged box. Surface mail, especially packages, from China may arrive in such conditions. Also, the bootleg did not come wrapped or cushioned, easily seen as reasons why the box is damaged. However, were it not dented in various places, one would find it quite difficult to identify the authentic one from the bootleg one.

Some bootlegs have boxes that are completely different than the authentic ones. i.e. Nendoroid Sakura Miku. The Dizzy boxes are exactly alike, so you can’t really distinguish a bootleg by its box nowadays…
…unless! Most authentic figures have their boxes stuck on by a holographic Hobby Japan sticker signifying its authenticity. In my case, the authentic one did have one located at the bottom of the box. Beware, some authentic figures may not have Hobby Japan stickers on them so it’s always best to get the most out of the viewing panels on the box.
Okay, enough with basic bootleg info! Let’s get to the actual Dizzy!

I just took them out of their boxes and immediately, you can notice the differences. Let me just say first of all, the bootleg version did not have the plastic case taped properly so the pieces kind of fell out a bit. The hair of bootleg Dizzy protrudes out a little. There are also a bunch of other differences that I will describe later.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/aa4f8bab-c7f3-474c-8f36-cc6b9f3e2492_zps110cc11b.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/23db4cfc-0f7b-4c92-98a9-128ee888d199_zpsb9c4964b.jpg

Here they are up close. The bootleg, ironically, came thickly wrapped on the inside. I apologize for the fogginess. The authentic came with wrapping as well, just not as much.

So here they both are out of their packaging without Undine and Necro! I lined their bases parallel with each other to show you the major differences. The extreme difference is the positioning, and we could probably name every single difference in positioning and angles there are. And what is that I see?!

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/2a7dd901-26b9-4566-8a6e-a7de241a1c3a_zps3e8ea645.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/d038b26a-e1b3-4d85-9b15-fbb9b4be8b6a_zpsf923b465.jpg

Bootleg Dizzy can’t even get on her stand right! Once you place her right feet on the lower peg, her left leg naturally fails to stay on the other. Talk about bad positioning! At this point, I must forcibly widen her legs to get them onto the stand.

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/40586988-3a81-4fb2-9ba9-e6b91f4456c5_zps01f494dc.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/9cfb384f-1801-4529-b3eb-1f8cbab68829_zps7f0c7ca5.jpg

Here are her legs. The tight straps on authentic Dizzy’s legs accentuates her voluptuous thighs, while the bootleg Dizzy would probably have the same bodacious-ness if only her strap wasn’t badly painted and her stockings and shoes could’ve used a better paint job.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/6544ae07-c3be-46d0-b53f-d787e203e73a_zps7daeab18.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/19d4e78b-b85a-4c67-a50a-a0d181d0080c_zps51401ba0.jpg

Here are the torsos of both Dizzys. The skin tone is different. Bootleg Dizzy acquires a tanner, more yellow skin tone while real Dizzy has her usual, beautiful paleness. Also, if you look closely, you can discern lines on bootleg Dizzy’s legs and parts of her shoulder that show that she may have been put together piece by piece. Not to mention it’s aesthetically displeasing. Real Dizzy doesn’t have a problem with it, even if she was made piece by piece, they covered it pretty well. Please note that the bootleg Dizzy experiences a lot of bad paint jobs. I think emphasizing this once is enough, haha!

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/b1843196-fb65-4118-bff0-1ab126e00063_zpsc41e88c5.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/ad30f653-bc7c-40c9-9a7c-0490be2b59e8_zps88a41ff9.jpg

And here we are at the most important part of the figure, the face! And OUCH does it hurt to look at bootleg Dizzy’s face! Her mouth looks like they’re bleeding and her eyes look dead. I don’t think I even see a defined pupil. Her hair looks chunky, but decently detailed. Her eyebrows are longer and higher, and they don’t taper off towards her nose so it makes it seem like she has a unibrow. She has eyelids, surprising for a bootleg figure, but they aren’t as defined as the authentic one. The ribbons on her hair are disconnected and they “float” on the hair. There is no indication that is it “tied” onto it. Her head is also in a different angle. The way to describe her facial expression is “I think I heard you say something and it was probably important but I think I’m mute so could you please repeat slowly while putting your mouth into my ear?” The authentic Dizzy has a relaxed, serene disposition, fit for her pose. I also want to mention that bootleg Dizzy has a giraffe’s neck, it’s unusually long and can somewhat be seen from this angle.

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/9fb6238c-4546-4ae8-8c08-76ea50d05835_zpse2971846.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/bbbfabf9-902d-4338-a508-b0f00f6773f4_zpsa49c0b4a.jpg

From the side, you can tell that Dizzy’s tail is curvier than the authentic one, making her butt seem to go higher. Note that they are in the same base alignment. Authentic dizzy is turned to me a bit while bootleg Dizzy is turned more to the other way. Honestly, I feel like bootleg Dizzy’s position looks more comfortable in this angle. Nonetheless, you can tell the differences in the direction she’s looking and the movement of her hair.

Here is the view from the back. All I have to say is that Dizzy’s behind looks like it’s about fall apart any second.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/8670b7b9-dd1c-46cc-b4d2-234823309c7c_zpscf389c21.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/fe090b51-ec72-4d10-a9a0-58aa72dfb433_zpsddf7c554.jpg

That looks like it hurts!! Never trust bootleggers to make your underwear.

Here we finally have both Dizzys with Necro and Undine! All three elements in each figure are positioned differently from one another. Bootleg Dizzy is actually taller than real Dizzy because Necro goes up more compared to authentic Necro who is spread out. It’s easier on my shelf, too! Bootleg Undine looks awkward, probably because I can see her body tapering into fake Dizzy’s back. I also got bootleg Dizzy's dangling leg onto her peg without ripping her open!

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/a7b688a8-4fa1-46b2-88b2-74474db2912b_zps26e09540.jpg

You can see the height difference better. Bootleg Dizzy is more narrow than real Dizzy who is wider. Also for those who are worried about the authentic one leaning over time, the bootleg looks like it could fall over. So consider the authentic one stable as is!

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/ea7a3f50-68ca-4232-ae31-c3ed09003810_zpsdd0f2260.jpghttp://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/7c4b5484-853d-4d79-9ff4-bd797fe337d1_zpse8db959b.jpg

The culprit of the height x width difference. Bootleg Undine was made to reach out further for some reason, not to mention that she was also really loose.

- - - - -

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/1a16c380-4109-4a08-949d-7ab5d64301e3_zps6b6aa31e.jpg http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn292/pokemon231123/23c5cc8a-9076-4bcf-9bb7-f1c1cf43038d_zps94d74c06.jpg
Unfortunately Undine had a bit of a mishap. Her hands are chipped and so is her mouth. Her hair was also missing some paint. Authentic Undine looks so serene! She looks like she’s sleeping unlike fake Undine who looks…stoned?

Same goes for Necro, who is badly painted on the bootleg.

Overall, there is a huge difference between bootleg Dizzy and authentic Dizzy, as you can see from this article. We've seen differences in paint jobs, angles, facial expression, and color tones. For something that is $50, the details on the bootleg aren't terrible that I'm going to gauge my eyes out. However, that doesn't mean you should get the bootleg. The authentic is always better and helps the figure company. Always keep out for bootlegs!

I don't know what I'm going to do with this bootleg...but I think I'll keep it hidden in the abyss that is my closet filled with figure boxes.

That is all for the Dizzy! I know I wrote a tome, but I hope you guys endured with me and found this interesting! For a three year old half gear, half human, Dizzy has quite…er…matured. She is a lovely figure tremendously detailed with superb craftsmanship. Yagyuu Toshiyuki has done a great job sculpting this! One of the finest Alter figures I’ve seen and a great 3 for 1 deal. I hope you enjoyed this and feedback and comments are greatly welcomed!

Here is a bonus! Warning: May be morbid.

mandysaurus_rex7 år sedan#1498944I have to say I didn't think what so ever when I bought the bootleg one.
I don't know why I all of a sudden became dumb. I know about bootlegs, I know china is a disgusting, evil figure born place and is always cheaper, but I just didn't pay attention when I bought mine. orz
I have to admit, the bootleg, to me personally isn't that, omg trash it/makes my eyes bleed. Im sure if I had the real one also, I would be more horrified, but from a distance (where she sits on my shelf) I can deal with it until I can save up for a real one.
So thank you for the comparison, I know what key details to look for when I buy another. Since I am gonna be extra cautious now and not let my dumb side buy things anymore haha

Yes, from far away bootleg Dizzy doesn't look awful. Unknowing people pass it off as authentic compared to avid figure collectors. It's not a bad bootleg since they managed to incorporate a decent amount of detail. I mean, Undine and Necro looked decently well. The one problem for me with dizzy bootleg was when it was on my shelf, she was a little bit taller so I had to push Necro down a little bit. I lack any really nice display cases. I wasn't disappointed when I just had the bootleg, rather disappointed when I compared these two to see how much more beautiful the authentic one was.

jefffuuu7 år sedan#1480624Yes, these two are so different yet they are the same. Yea, unfortunately, bootleg Dizzy looks a little around decent.
I would actually like to keep her for a bit longer, but thank you for your offer and your volunteer work is very helpful!

I actually thought also a few months ago to write a sortwise comparison review, but the figure I have a bootleg and real one of are just too...different, so everybody can already see the difference between the real and the bootleg: PICTURE #649585

And thank you, I appreciate it! ^^ If you ever decide on donating her, just PM me or comment on my profile! ^^

Actually, the box isn't 100% identical. There are times where they make mistakes on the text or whatever, also, if you look at it closely, you can see the print image is horrible. It usually looks darker with awful colors in bootlegs. I can see how it might fool someone, but yeah.

Maakie7 år sedan#1479441I like the comparioson. :) There are very distinct things to see which one is bootleg and which one not, but I got to say that the bootleg looks very good for a bootleg!
Oh and if you don't know what to do about the bootleg. I give lectures at local conventions about bootleg prevention and we always need bootlegs to show the public. So you can donate her if you would like. I am a volunteer and don't have to budget to pay for the bootleg or shipping costs, so if you are interested in helping, it should really be a donation! Of course you get credits in the presentation and I can also put down a website or something else for you there as a thank you. :)

Muntoe7 år sedan#1479087We need more reviews like this, I like seeing how the two compare! Cool review.

Yes but not many people get bootlegs for these kind of purposes unless they were on accident. I just happen to be lucky to find somehow who owned a Dizzy bootleg while having a real Dizzy for my own!

But thank you! I appreciate it!
