Queen's Blade Rebellion - Ymir - 1/6 - Steel Staff Ver. (Clayz)Queen's Blade Rebellion - Ymir - 1/6 - Steel Staff Ver. (Clayz)Review

Here I go with another QB figure review, this time Ymir in her Rebellion outfit. This is a 1/6 cold cast figure, and it was very expensive (as of now, it's probably the most expensive figure of my collection). And I'm kinda disapointed with it. I'm not familiar with cold cast figures, but I thought it would be better than this, considering the high price... anyway, let's get on with it.

Packaging

As expected, no windows or anything to show the figure, since it's more fragile than a PVC figure.

Big block. I thought it would be enough to protect this kind of figure (well, it's enough for my good old Kotobukiya FFVII figures), but...

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/256873P1010015.jpg

A part of the ribbon from her undies was broken. Since it's really thin I guess it can happen. I just glued it back, I'm not so good at this but it's under her skirt, so it's not so bad... but still. They could have made it separate, of softer material, or just a little bigger, or added some soft foam... *sigh* So the box is big, unpretty and doesn't even protect the figure enough to make it come safely to me. 3/10

Sculpting

So this is what you get from the big foam block:

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/591984P1010016.jpg

You have Ymir herself, her two axes with her hands, her back ribbon, and the base. Putting the hands is not so hard, but the higher hand isn't so well done, as it rubs on her arms. I was careful, yet I scratched some paint. It's not easy to see, but having it more accessible would have prevented this. Other than that, I have no issues with the sculpting, so I guess I'll give 8/10. I must say I'm a fan of her armors, they are sculpted very well, especially the boots.

Painting

Well... Painting is this figure's main problem, and I'm not sure my crappy camera could get the flaws, but let's go on with it.

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/182738P1010025.jpg

The front really looks terrible. My camera can't even show how much. The laces of her corset make me want to cry. The left cross is okay, while the right one... oh gawd. They were too generous with the gold paint kinda everywhere... I made some touch up after the picture was taken (only black parts since I'm not so confident about my painting skills and I don't have pink and flesh color paint), but damn, if you can't do this lacing look decent, just hide in shame. Clayz, I won't get any more figures with you just because of this. I'm serious.

A QB figure with her panties not painted right makes me want to beat somebody to death (not easy to see, but check this line on the right). The straps on her leg are also not so good, really.

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/363236P1010030.jpg

Those axes... too much gold paint... ugh. I did some touch up to save my eyes from bleeding.

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/793890P1010033.jpg

Well, for the good points... *sigh* Her armor parts are really well painted, with a nice metallic shine. No bleeding here, strangely. Her face and head is also nice, tho there could have been more details in her hair. If the front of her corset is horrible, the back part is good, honestly. (Love that big ribbon.)

The skirt is also really nice. It looks like they put all their painting efforts there, with the checks and the transparent frilly stuff. It DOES look nice. But it doesn't compensate for the other parts looking so amateur. 4/10 on painting. I'm not so familiar with cold cast, do they all need so much repainting? *sigh*

Posing

I bought this figure mainly because I tought the previous figure of Ymir in this outfit looked so stiff, while this pose looks more relaxed. Let's make a tour!

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/511286P1010021.jpg

I think this pose is cute... but her face is a bit too expressionless. She could have been smiling just a little more, or just a little angry... Her hips could have been a little more refined, too, her legs look too parallel and stiff. Considering the two heavy axes in movement in her hands, her legs should normally follow the movement a little, right? And the axe on her back could been seen a little more, the angle isn't the best...

Her expression looks nice from this angle...

Personnal opinion, I think her eyes are too big and a bit scary... Anyway. I give 7/10 for posing.

Base

Plain black base (I think it's common to resin and cold cast figures), not too big considering the space she takes and the fact she's heavy and fragile. Very stable. 6/10

Enjoyment

Well, she's a deception for me, that's a fact. Considering her high price, I thought I would get a better quality product. What do I get? Something already broken a little, and badly painted. That's sad, because I really like Ymir, and all my other Queen's Blade figures are of better quality than this... Still, the more I look at her, the more her good points stand out (especially after the few touch up I made so my eyes don't bleed anymore...) Also, I must say, she's really big for a 1/6 figure.

http://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/180573P1010035.jpg

Ymir is a dwarf, therefore a small character, a cute loli with sharpness. But now she stands taller than anybody. That's kinda impressive. (I mean, would a Claudette or Listy of the same scale even fit in there? They would be too tall... O_o ) So, for the enjoyment, I'll give the passage note to me: 6/10. She's just okay. But I wouldn't recommend her, except to Ymir maniacs who want everything from her.

OrannisMy Ymir showed up today; nothing broken fortunately, even with it going by regular SAL shipping. The paint job on yours is definitely worse than mine, particularly on the front corset strings, but for the price of this figure the paint job was still a little sloppy. I was also a little disappointed by the presence of air bubbles in the translucent part of the skirt. Other than that, though, I'd say it was very nicely done, I'd probably give it overall a 7, 7.5.

Seems like I got the one with a bad corset day... and a mean EMS shipping... but even with all the bad stuff I said, I must say that she looks good in my collection and I wouldn't exchange her.

simakaiWould you tell me about it when you get it if it's not a bother, I really want to know if the problem is only with mine, or if it's a regular issue... :(

Sure, no bother at all. It'll probably get here next week with a little luck....

OrannisI guess we'll see if mine has the same problems.

BrofigureThank you for this review, I have been looking to purchase him for quite a while. Do you know if he comes with orange hair?

First of all, it's she.

Second, you can see the figure there; it has the correct hair color. Only the prepainted garage kit from a certain company I refuse to name paints the hair orange.

Don't think about throw her away before asking my adress xD! Despite of all the ( right ) points you complain about her painting, it's still a beautiful figure to have in the collection; the real bad point is how much you pay for a figure that comes broken and not so good painted :/! Thanks for reviewing ^^~

Hmmm.... Just ordered her, cost me $208CAN shipped, and was hoping at that price and the fact that she sold like wildfire she would looks good.... it seems that excluding the hair, the prepainted resin kit looks better. :( I guess we'll see if mine has the same problems.

I agree that with the high price, you expect more than that. But i guess the price go to the material making her =__=.

Great review, btw! Very detailed and thoughtfulness. I like this very much ^__^

That's a very nice, impressive review, congrats ^^. I don't like Ymir at all and I'm totally not into "loli" figures, but I couldn't stop reading your review! Very nice indeed =)
You know, at first sight, I'd say this Ymir figure was from Griffon (at least the official picture seems so), because of the bright colors and eyes, but your pictures show us the difference.
The only cold cast figure I own is not that good or expensive, so I can't tell my impression about this kind of figure either =/
Anyway, really nice review =) I enjoyed reading it!
