I'm over 18
Today I'm doing something a bit different for you all...I hope you like it. I'm going to review ITEM #119875, ITEM #119226 and tell you a little about the content of ITEM #119883 even though sadly I don't own it. Warning! This article includes NSFW pictures, since the items reviewed are based on an erotic loli doujin.

~Gothic Lolita~

I think that in order to fully appreciate something, you have to know what it's about. Gothic Lolita was originally released in three parts, which were later on compiled into an omnibus, which is called Gothic Lolita Nouvelle Collection. All of these have been Comiket releases, so they might not be so easy to come by. The artist behing this dark tale is CHOCO, also known as Koichi Mugitani.

If you don't want to get spoiled, you can skip this part. The whole series has been scanlated in English by Sakinobashi, so I recommend reading them if you can find them.

View spoilerHide spoilerBaron Melches is a worshipper of the demon Asmodeus, who likes to take young girls as his "wives" and makes a ritual of contract with them. The story inroduces us to two of these girls, Dorothea Vermeer and Kiyoko Kisaragi.

A son of one of Melches' servants named Kotipelto falls in love with Dorothea. After taking her virginity in his coming of age ceremony, he vows to never forget about her. After that Dorothea becomes Melches' faithful wife.

Later, Naruyoshi Kisaragi is asked to bring his younger sister to Melches' castle. The siblings both harbor forbidden feelings towards one another without the other knowing. Melches ties Naruyoshi and feeds gourmet foods to blindfolded Kiyoko, who mistakes him for her brother. Melches torments Naruyoshi about his forbidded love while seducing Kiyoko. When the ritual is over, Dorothea persuades the upset Kiyoko to axe her brother to death.

Two years later Kotipelto sneaks into Melches' castle meet his love. His father finds the two and tries to murder them for revenge of losing his eye because of Dorothea earlier. It ends up with Dorothea losing her eye and Kotipelto impaled with a knife inside the garden. Removing the knife will result in an istant death. As a last act of love, they have sex and Dorothea get impregnated with Kotipelto's child.

After the child is born, Kiyoko reveals she's known about Dorothea's adultery all this time and steals the baby for herself. Dorothea is locked into the cellars to please the pigs. She manages to escape and interrupts Melches and Kiyoko trying to offer the child to Asmodeus. Asmodeus is not pleased and decides to burn everything down. All the residents of the castle die, except for Dorothea and her baby Kotipelia who manage to escape from the fire to the woods.

It's a touching story, don't you think? I don't know if I was able to sum it up nicely, but at least I tried.

Here's a video ad for the Gothic Lolita XXX that features the music from the Gothic Lolita ORCHESTRION cd. Watching this will get you into the right mood.

If you are interested in the ORCHESTRION cd, here's a link to a YouTube playlist that has most of the songs. I've also included some photos after the XXX review and my thoughts of the cd, so take a look if you'd like!

Gothic Lolita XXX

Gothic Lolita XXX is an adult-themed Pop-up Picture Book.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559781.jpeg

As such, I found out that taking photos of it is a total nightmare! Try to imagine taking pictures with one hand and trying to support the pages at the same time. And the fact that the surface easily reflects all the light projected to it? Lovely. I don't own a camera so I'm using my phone for this review, I'm probably going to re-do this at some point when I can borrow a good camera that takes sharp pictures, but try to bear with my current images.

It has six pages, so there's three spreads that each depict a different scene from the series. The first is "The Dinner of "le Blanc" from the second doujin named Gothic Lolita Viandier, the second a shot of "The Castle of the Baron Melches" that includes scenes from the third doujin called Gothic Lolita Mariage. The last spread is "New Life in the Flowers" also from Gothic Lolita Mariage.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/08/13/497520.jpeg

This is a commercial shot of the first spread. It's way better than any picture I managed to take. The book won't stay open on it's own like that, at least not for me. You have to hold it open, and preferably support it a bit with your hands to get the back walls to stand properly. The first spread has the most need for some extra support and holding down, the other two seem to work a little better.

Well, lets open it...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559782.jpeg

In the following pictures you can see how this spread would work better if it had better support. The objects are all leaning a bit. It won't hurt the view from the front much, but if you look at it from the sides...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559790.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559791.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559792.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559793.jpeg

Still, it's not that bad I think. Now for some details!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559794.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559795.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559796.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559797.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559799.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559800.jpeg

A black butterfly is a really nice way to censor Kiyoko's flowerbud.
Next a view from the back below.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559798.jpeg

This first spread is called "The Dinner of "le Blanc" and it's a scene from the second doujin named Gothic Lolita Viandier.

I really love the attention to detail! There's so much to look at and everything is beautifully drawn. The dark colors really add to the athmosphere. This was a pretty twisted scene in the doujin, and the hedonistic symbolism is clearly visible here as well.

Next up is...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559972.jpeg

The second spread is very nice. It opens up easily and is stabile, all the parts are well supported. The full picture won't show all the small details, so I've taken some close-ups.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559976.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559975.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559997.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559981.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559982.jpeg

Too see everything hidden inside the castle, you have to peek inside the windows and other openings.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559983.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559973.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559980.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559979.jpeg

"If thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee."

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559974.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559987.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559986.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/559988.jpeg

Lot's of interesting activities going on upstairs...

"The Castle of the Baron Melches" is the name of this spread, and it features scenes from the third doujin called Gothic Lolita Mariage. This spread is my least favorite, but that doesn't mean I don't like it! Again the details are really impressive and there's just so much going on in the castle to keep you entertained. You'll need a good lighting to see inside, and sometimes you have to spend some time to figure the best angle from where you can see the pictures inside, but that just makes it more fun for me. This doesn't depict just one particular scene, but the overall feeling of the dark and mysterious castle comes nicely alive with CHOCO's art and all the wonderful colors.

Onto the last scene...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560048.jpeg

The final spread is steady and I think this one might stay up on it's own if you put some weight on the page's edges.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560049.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560051.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560050.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560071.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560069.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560070.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560077.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560078.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560079.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560081.jpeg

I think the blooming rose metaphor is kind of fun. Things like these make this more into a work of art than just "porn".

This third and last spread is called "New Life in the Flowers" and it's from Gothic Lolita Mariage. This is my personal favorite, the scene in the doujin was really touching. You notice how the colors are pastel-like unlike the first two spreads that have very dark colors. This scene is a bittersweet one, a dying lover creating new life as the last act of love before his passing. The walls of the garden hide the menacing but now dead bloodhound from view. I think it creates a nice effect, how you only see those "ugly things" when you look inside the walls. I'm really glad that this scene was given it's rightful place in this book, since it's definitely one of the most important ones in the story. Everything is just breathtaking to look at, the sweet colors and the detailed art showing us the love between these two characters.

Well, that's it. What can I say, I really love this book. I'd recommend it to anyone who appreciates CHOCO's art. I'm a bit sad that there's no scenes from the first doujin Gothic Lolita Daguerrotype, but I guess those scenes were left out due to factors unknown to us. The materials used to make this are great and strong, the cardboard is of good quality.

I read from CHOCO's webpage that this book was actually manufactured in Japan instead of China like usual, due to the fact that China's customs might have had confiscated the material due to it's controversial themes or something of the sort. I'm glad that Finland's customs didn't take any interest of my package when I ordered this. ^^;

Gothic Lolita ORCHESTRION

Gothic Lolita ORCHESTRION is an album including one image song and a sort of "soundtrack" for the series.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560125.jpeg

The cd case and the disk itself have beautiful art on them.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560126.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560127.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560128.jpeg

And here's the inside of the booklet & inside of the, uh...what's-it-called paper thing.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560129.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560134.jpeg

Now, about the music. I like instrumental music, which is mostly what's on this cd. As you can guess, it's classical stuff, violins and other orchestra instruments. I think this cd gives a good variety of different moods, and those moods correspond well to the scenes in the series. The vocal song is also nice, the singer has a good voice and there's lots of emotion in the music itself. This might not be the best soundtrack ever that I've heard, but it's pretty solid and I found all the tracks in it nice in their own ways. None was outright "bad" for me, but then again, I like this sort of music. There's not too many tracks, but the cd is pretty cheap anyways. I think it's worth the price for what it has to offer.

I've bought both of these items from AmiAmi if you're looking for them!

The End?

As you might have noticed, I like CHOCO. He's one of my favorite artists. So I thought that I should introduce you to my humble "collection" of things he's made that I own. :3

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560131.jpeg

I don't have a lot of stuff, but everything I have is very dear to me.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560132.jpeg

This is a manga called "Iguna Cross Reigoueki", I'm currently missing two parts.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2012/11/08/560133.jpeg

And here are my Busou Shinkis that have been designed by CHOCO. Sharatang, Baby Razz and YDA Stradale. I also his Busou Shinki-combatible Dorothea figure on it's way to my home. He's also made more Shinki designs and one other figure based on his character is also combatible with Shinkis, which is really nice for customization.

Did you like what you saw? I'd love to hear what you think about these items, so please share!

Catnap7 år sedan#1224153Oh, so they went for that kind of story. I'm a big fan of slice of life and light-hearted shows in general, so i'm pretty sure i'll like it, but i see how a lot of people would want to see some action, especially those who played the original games. Good thing they're balancing the contents to appeal to both older and newer Busou Shinki lovers.

Battle Masters Mk.2 is very tempting, but unfortunately i don't own a PSP and i currently have no plans of getting one, so i won't be able to play it anytime soon. When a friend made me discover Shinkis the PC game was still active, but it was "closed" a couple of months later. In retrospect i'm glad i didn't buy a Shinki to play it, "losing" her after a month would have been just sad.

Sewing isn't easy, on that scale it would be an even more difficult task indeed. Good luck with it though! If you decide to give it a try, seeing a picture of a custom Gothic Lolita Shinki would be interesting ^^

I hope a genre choice like that'll introduce more girls into the franchise. :P It'll be interesting to see what all the new fans will be like really, so I'm not feeling all that bad about it. The games just managed to bring out the awesome battles and then highlight the cute moments with your Shinki in between them, so I'm hoping they'll find that balance in the anime series too.

Aw, that's too bad. I can only play when my brother visits since I don't have my own either, but I'd definitely get a PSP just for this game, I'm so hooked to it! xD I could have tried the PC game out too, but I was a bit intimidated by all the kanjis. Knowing now that the battles were automatic and all made me regret not trying it out less, but I would've liked to be able to poke the virtual nose of my Yda! Maybe if Shinkis get really popular again they'll make a new PC game? Ah, that's probably just wishful thinking...

Thanks! I have some experience of sewing because I do cosplay, so at least it's not all new for me. But making fancy stuff in such a small scale really takes patience and precision...and I'm really lazy. orz If I ever get good enough to make a Shinki-sized Gothic Lolita dress, I'll definitely post pics! But first I'll try to master the basics of simple clothes, heh.

Hatchuu7 år sedan#1223603I don't have a credit card either, in fact I only just a bank account. Behind on the times, I know, but knowing how much I have in cash makes it a lot harder to overspend. I really like Kiyoko's too but yeah, not so display friendly. I think it's the splayed hair and clothing I like though, I'm a huge sucker for that sort of detail! And that it's Kiyoko~ I'm not too familiar with CHOCO's work actually, I stumbled across the Gothic Lolita collection AGES ago somewhere and anything else I don't really know, but what I've seen in my searches looks lovely.

Oh yeah, the doujin market is wonderful for getting out there, Tony Taka being the most infamous example of that, but certainly not the only person. I kinda wish there were doujin markets for elsewhere, it seems like such a good idea to be able to make a tidy sum off of selling your own work and skills like that, with music and games and manga and merchandise!

Yeah, it's always good to be able to keep your budget in check! Ooh, I like the effect on her hair & clothes too, I've always liked lying figures (and art too) because of that. They're just hard to display, that's probably why I don't own any (yet). It's funny how my bf made a comment about Kiyoko "being maybe the most selfish person in the end" since it was her jealousy of Dorothea's baby that doomed her and Melches. But even if she's so evil, who could say no to that face? XD; It's hard to get into CHOCO's stuff in you can't read Japanese, since most of his stuff isn't translated. But I hope you manage to find more cool stuff by him that you'll like! :3

If only the western world could see the advantages of such a "free market" too, but then again the cultural differences might change how the doujin market would work here, if it was possible to have our own doujin market in the first place I mean. Well, for me it's really fascinating how the fandom of a series can "evolve" because of the doujin culture exists. And of course, it's a great chance to get yourself some recognition like you said, but you really need to shine above the masses to achieve that I think.

Raiski7 år sedan#1222848To be honest, it's a bit of a dissappointment. ^^; Not that I had super high hopes for it or anything, I'm just not really impressed by the "slice of life moeness" they're going for. I just think that they should try to sell Shinkis also by how cool their armor and battles can be, and not just how cute they are. But the latest episode actually had good action in the form of Arnval Mk.2 using a nice variety of her weapons, and the next one where they'll be telling ghost stories seems promising too. I hope it keeps getting better and that they'll give other Shinkis than the main four ones enough screentime too.
I highly recommend the PSP game Battle Masters Mk.2 though. That one has actually a serious storyline and it has lots of Shinkis to choose from. I just recently found all the DLC Shinkis + their event data and armor sets downloadable from this website too. Finally I can get to know more about some of my girls' personalities!
Yeah, I've been thinking about maybe getting one and trying to use it to make patterns for more dresses and just sew my own from then on...but it's really hard to find such small lace and other stuff for detailing. :/ And sewing small stuff like that is a challenge in itself.

Raiski7 år sedan#1221808It really shows he's put a lot of effort into the drawings. The doujins are pretty short and came out slowly so there was time to polish everything to perfection. Dorothea's and Kiyoko's designs are great in how they contrast each other. He's done the same with Igna-Cross' Miranda and Epsy too, now that I think. I hope you can get the hang of CHOCO's style, I'd wish to be as great one day too. :3 And yea, I can relate since I had to actually order this book through someone else. I have no credit card you see, only a debit one. I was so afraid of customs catching the box or the person opening it before shipping it onwards to me! D': Dorothea's figure is safe enough yea, I hope you can get yours one day. ^^ I also like Kiyoko's figure, but that's a bit more risque...

I was really suprised by the popularity of my review too, I'm so happy that the book seems to be a hit here on MFC! x) I think that even with the doujin market, there are things that are more "mainstream". I think Chocolate Shop circle isn't yet all that known, but it's not completely obscure either. :P

OhnoRaptors7 år sedan#1221816Just noticed the other day that AmiAmi stocked this! That makes me really happy, since I was going to have a friend pick it up for me on their visit to Japan (this way is much less awkward, haha). The book was popular when it first came out, I remember a lot of blog posts about it. It's gorgeous.
Nice review. ^^ It's really great seeing more doujinshi posts here.

Whoo, I didn't know it's that popular! That's great, the book deserves it.
Thanks, I think it's good to have variety in the reviews section too. And doujin goods are easy to miss since they don't get advertised as much, so it's up to us who know to introduce them to others! :3

Those are some really nice dresses, they would really make your Shinkis more Goth-themed. Too bad they're so pricey, they don't seem the kind of article that gets discounts easily, but with some luck you can hopefully find a good offer!

Raiski7 år sedan#1221645Nah, it's okay. I do like Gothic Lolita theme a lot too, especially the "Gothic" part. I've always been fascinated by the cross between dark but elegant themes and cute & innocent things. Besides, CHOCO seems to be able to combine a his Lolita-esque designs into his more futuristic works too, which is really interesting for me. :3 I figured that since the anime for Busou Shinki started, people might actually have interest in seeing CHOCO's Shinkis. Baby Razz's sure the most "loli" and really cute, but the other two have more ladylike personalities. x) If they weren't so expensive I'd love to get these girls some Picconeemo Lolita dresses to fit the scene. search.php?type...

Kirageddon7 år sedan#1222075Yes indeed, especially if that refers to Sharatang. One does not simply separate the sisters apart : P Although I can say that's more like long term plan, either waiting for a re-release or repaint, or continue hunting down for any possible stock (which is even hell a lot scarcer than oxygen in the outerspace). Right now the only stocks I can find are in Mandarake and Ebay, with price tags almost identical to the numbers printed on my monthly paycheck.

It's just my luck I managed to find Razz from a local-based online figure store, brand new with price slightly lower than those I saw in Mandarake and Ebay. It really feels like the seller ordered her into their stock without realizing that this girl is being hunted down by collectors outside Malaysia. I'm still not entirely sure if I'll be getting Yda though. Her accessories/mech/armour/weapons is just drop dead neat and gorgeous but she seems a little of out of scale due to her small head to be grouped with the current Shinkis I own now, let alone with Razz or Sharatang (once I get her). God, I hope I'm wrong on that.

Anyway, may I also have the site link where I can get Dorothea's 1/12 figure, please? Seeing photos of her using MMS bodies fittingly (and the fact that I have an unused MMS3 naked body) makes me want her more.. :3

I think it's good to wait for now, at least in Sharatang's case. If Konami ever decides to start releasing Shinkis again, I think that re-releasing all of CHOCO's girls would be a good idea for them, since they're all really popular. Also since the Shara & Razz have yet to have their recolors made, I'm pretty certain they'll get them at some point. I mean, almost all the figures based on CHOCO's stuff have color variations of some sort!

Wow, you're lucky! I got Razz for 7000 yen on Manda at the end of last year. Then I got my Sharatang shortly after from a Busou Shinki World member for 80 bucks! I was really happy since she was already going for over 10K on Mandarake at the time. ^^
Oh, I'm used to different sized heads since I own so many and the head sizes vary a lot between different waves. Yda's head is just slightly smaller, and it's also got to do with how the head and hair parts are connected. It's far more disturbing to compare BLADE's girls heads to Fort Bragg's or Zelnogrard's heads, lol. :'D Yda's MMS1 body also makes her neck look slightly longer I think.

Ugh, just saw Yda with the bonus head parts on Manda gone for 12K yen, she's gaining on her sister in prices! D: And I got my rarer Dengeki ver. for 9K yen back in the day...

Yeah of course you can. :3 I think she needs some modding done before being fully combatible though, since she's missing the joint on the head that connects to the neck -> picture/498505&... I don't know if the naked bodies include those though (since I own none >__>;), but you could always gouge out the one that comes with the naked head? I'll look into modding Dorothea when I get mine.

Baby Razz is adorable! Have you thought about getting more of CHOCO's shinkis? (although the prices of those atm are...sky-piercingly high) I always thought that Lady Jobs looks a bit like Sharatang, so when I'm good enough I'll sew her a cosplay! xP

Yes indeed, especially if that refers to Sharatang.
