Probably the worst kit I ownProbably the worst kit I ownReview

I don't usually review kits until after I assemble and paint them but. . . just look at this thing:

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/12/29/2356288.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/12/29/2356289.jpeg

I bought this from Yahoo Japan Auctions. The seller couldn't really describe it. They didn't put who was made by or even post a picture of how it looked. All they knew was that it was a Sakuya Izayoi kit.

All I had to go by was a picture of the parts all bundled together. The most I could make out were the legs. I checked every entry on here and could not find any that matched the legs. I took the gamble though and figured "well, maybe it's some neat kit of her just not uploaded yet."

I was wrong. lol

The casting is very messy and the parts fit pretty awkwardly too. Do I even need to mention the sculpt? The sculptor didn't even bother to sand or smooth out the master sculpt. There are tons of marks of handling the clay, especially on the skirt. And the face. . . Oh lord the face. . .

The moment I opened the bag I actually said aloud "WHAT is that face??"

So MFC tell me your opinions.
Should I try to do this kit justice by fixing it up? Let me know your thoughts.

With the right care (shitton of sanding, puttying and resculpting) can this be salvaged?

88%Yes. I believe in you!
11%No, I don't think so.
0%Yes, that's nothing compared to other kits

leonasenshi9 månader sedan#72966538I honestly don't see why you think that the kit is not workable. I've worked with tons of kits in worse shape, all you need to do to the eyes is just scrape them with a #12 xacto blade and you're all set. You don't really need to sand with sandpaper, you can also scrape seamlines and imperfections like those with a good curved blade.

I never said it's not workable. It's definitely workable, and the casting is definitely not the worst I've seen (I actually have a far worse kit that's temporarily made me rage quit on it for now) in terms of cast quality. The problem is more so if the sculpt itself is too derpy or not to actually bother finishing. It will require extensive modding beyond the face to make it workable. It seriously looks much worse in person. My phone just can't pick up all the details. >_<
I'm actually surprised you commented on one of my journals! I watched all your tutorials several times over and they are how I learned quite a bit. I know modding a kit like this might not be as hard for someone more experienced such as yourself, but please be aware I am still a rookie and have only completed two GKs so far.
I think it's very flattering that people have faith in my skills despite this.

I just looked at the original entry and oh god that face! It looks better unpainted.>0<

I do think this is salvageable. The seam lines aren't too terrible. The face is the only part needs a lot of work, and even then it's only around the eyes. This could be a fun fixer-upper.

Dat terrifying alien face on the entry's painted one lol.

Honestly, I'd burn it with fire. But doesn't have to do with your skills. I saw chibi(ish) one you did the other day and it looked really nice. The sculpt on this one is just terribad and it doesn't deserve to be made to look good.

galablue9 månader sedan#72937255I would try. I believe in you. Maybe if you have some paint techniques you have been wanting to try, or new tools, you could try it out on this figure and just go bonkers making it look interesting. But honestly it would be a pretty amazing "before" and "after" if you managed to pull it off.
But yes, I believe in you!!
Edit: also I'm curious how much you paid for this, especially if you went in blind (if you don't mind me asking)

Thanks so much. You and everyone else commenting similar positive comments. I'm glad you all have faith in me to fix her. XD

I think I paid the retail price total.. which is 4000 yen, perhaps a bit more with tax. And that's including the EMS shipping bundled with other items. Still too much but I guess I can say I'm the only person probably in this entire community who owns this meme-worthy figure right? LOL

I think with the right care and paint, it could turn out perfectly fine. I don't think it seems horrible or anything... the unpainted version is only a base to work on afterall.

If you like elves universe why not the unicor or the new one pkking gk?

The face looks horrible. The mould lines on there are bad and there is a tab on the neck.

Pains9 månader sedan#72938497The worst I've ever received is definitely this HnK one... I couldn't believe they sold it, and they don't have the excuse of being a new maker like the one posted lol twitter.com/Bit...

Oof that's terrible!! My idea would to use UV resin (you could try epoxy but UV can set faster) over the clear part. Sand it smooth with higher and higher grades of sand paper (600 - 1200 probably)

I'm aware of of a specific smaller recaster that has this specific kit in stock if you just want a replacement part (I think yours was an outlier as I've seen another copy with smooth clear parts)
