1. Did you ever ordered anything pre-owned (for example: from AmiAmi or MFC)? If so, what is the best deal you had?
It's not my first pre-owned figure but i got Saeki from Amiami at JPY 7.380 (USD 68) and she's in a superb condition including her box. So that made her my best deal of pre-owned figure.

2. Do you own any of your holy grails? If so, who are they?
I'm focusing on Selvaria Bles and have a few of her, but this is the one i love most till this day.

3. What is the most expensive figure you ever bought?
Again lol, she's the one.

4. How long have you been figure collecting? How did it start?
I randomly starting into Anime arround late 2008 due to fascinated by Selvaria Bles' grace (hence my first & always be my number 1 waifu), then moving forward loving her Illustrator Raita Honjou. Thus, my motive into Anime world and end up collecting related stuffs. But my first figurine is Hitomi tho, lol.

5. What is the oldest figure you own and how old is it (in a way of when it released)?
In this case (and again lol), Hitomi's my oldest figurine. She's been released on 2006.

Been a while since I last saw someone post these kinda Qs

1. Yep. ~2-4k yen for scale figures from Suruga-ya. Now that they've opened branches in more places prices are rarely as cheap. Also bought figures before from MFC, one of which was because I was desperate to have that figure whose price was constantly at 3x original retail price. Not long after I bought it, announcement of re-release which wasn't expected (´;ω;`)

2. A few of my faves I have I guess, but I don't really think of any as holy grails now. Still precious though.

3. An action figure-- MGS4 RAH Raiden. Original price was ~20k yen. The exchange rate was worse for me then, plus resale, so I got it for more than that. Most scale figures back then were only ~6k, but these days I see a lot of 20k scales (;・∀・)

4. Either already 10 years if I bought Raiden first, or almost 10 years if I bought Sebastian nendoroid first.

5. Sebastian nendoroid was new, released in July 2009, while Raiden came out in Aug 2008. But suddenly I thought of my Kamen Rider stuff and I might have bought Kamen Rider action figures before I bought either of these...

1. I ordered Medicom Jack Sparrow pre-owned from a Japanese guy and he took care of it so well that it looked brand new!

2. Yes My favorite figure of all time is Medicom Matoi Ryuko college jacket ver

3. Same as #2 I bought her for $500 (yikes) but now she's worth over 1k totally worth!

4. I don't remember how many years its been, maybe around 4 years of figure collecting. AAand It started because I just wanted to buy one dragon ball Z figure in my room which drove me to the spiraling depths of hell that I call figure collecting :)

5. I don't think I have an old figure or at least I can't think of one because it's 4:00 am and I don't know what I'm doing right now.

Well I buy a huge amount from AmiAmi as I've been with them for years so these spring to mind as some of my greatest bargains:
ITEM #72243 (bought for £110.00 before the re-release in 2018, I was super stoked for this one as he was going for over £200.00 so this was a no brainer when i saw him in the pre-owned section!)

ITEM #157021 (Another One Piece POP which is hard to get, I looked everywhere for this guy and then one day there he was on AmiAmi pre-owned £127.00! Again this guy usually goes for more than that so immediately snapped him up!)

ITEM #144479 (By far my biggest AmiAmi pre-owned bargain to date, A/B condition for £106.00 this one now goes for over double this!)

ITEM #4031 (One I couldn't believe I snagged, as she was B+/B condition and being resin I was dubious, turned out she was A/B and she only cost me £60.00!)

ITEM #254416 (My latest AmiAmi pre-owned bargain! 15,000 JPY pre-owned A/B condition, this goes for way more than this, can't wait to get it!)

ITEM #93862 (I traded some items with an MFC user for this guy and I don't regret it one bit! I have also bought from other MFC users too and had great experiences! :D)

2. Do you own any of your holy grails? If so, who are they?

Amazingly quite a few figures I own I consider holy grail and they're:

ITEM #189541 (Not a figure but really rare to find now)
ITEM #72243 (Yep he was a holy grail!)
ITEM #396921 (Of SMJ, never thought I'd own this one!)
ITEM #264423 (Got this guy on holiday in Switzerland with extra head, again never thought I'd get him honestly, as his price was insane until those re-releases.)
ITEM #242875 (Been wanting this for ages and finally I managed to get on again on Manadarake, my god am i happy to own this!)
ITEM #287743 (Bought her off a friend, I could not have this cutie in my collection!)
ITEM #166617 (Another SMJ find, got her and the petit pre-owned for just over £50!)
ITEM #98880
ITEM #98878 (SMJ again snagged both of these for amazing prices new!)
That's just some of them! lol

Just over 7 years now, it all started for me when I was in Japan on holiday I went to an arcade in Akihabara with my friends and in there right at the front was a game similar to a crane game except you had to put a rod through a hole right in the middle to release the prize (I know what you're thinking... XD), anyway the prizes were first release SEGA Evangelion figures of Asuka and Rei ITEM #53995 ITEM #54017 I said to my mates jokingly I play a lot of Rock Band and Guitar Hero so I have good hand eye coordination, so I'm going to try and win one! Well they laughed but said "sure give it a shot!" I did and within 3 goes I won Asuka, I'll never forget that moment, when the machine dropped the prize and music started to play and lights were flashing and the whole arcade stopped to look at me! It was so embarrassing! Lol Even more so when I turned around among the confusion to find a Japanese lady holding a bag out in front of me on her knees congratulating me! It was so surreal! Anyway after the commotion died down I said to my mate I'm going to try and win Rei as Asuka will be lonely! Lol Well shockingly I did it again! Well that's where it all began I then went and bought ITEM #63123 ITEM #63124 and ITEM #2466 and the rest they say is history as when I got back I started buying figures like crazy but it wasn't until a year later I found out over half my collection were bootlegs! I got rid of them and began using legit sites and into the abyss I fell..... lol

Yes, I tend to purchase older figures or ones I missed out on pre-owned. If there’s a particular figure I’m on the hunt for I definitely like to look through Amiami and Mandarake.

One of the best deals I’ve gotten was for ITEM #64912. I purchased it from another user on here for $75 and it was unopened/new. As much as I’d like to I still haven’t been able to bring myself to open it as I know I probably won’t get my hands on another sealed one for a decent price haha.

Another notable deal I was able to jump on was for ITEM #144354 for $65. Yet again it was a purchase from a fellow user on here. The figure does have an unremovable black marking on one of the legs and the previous owner had rubbed off some of the skin paint trying to get said spot off; but it isn’t noticeable when the figure is on display and I’m still ecstatic to own the figure.

2. Do you own any of your holy grails? If so, who are they?

I own two so far with them being:
ITEM #820280
ITEM #198563

Both were very difficult for me to even track down, much less for an affordable price. Especially the Phantom of the Paradise one given the film’s relative obscurity.

I managed to one day see a listing on Mandarake for a new and unopened one though that had some minor box damage for only a fraction of what I saw him sell for from the few places that did have it in stock. I immediately checked out and completed the order but I was still nervous I’d get the dreaded email from Mandarake informing me it was actually out of stock. Much to my surprise and joy they simply sent me the payment link and it arrived to me a week later.

I truly love the film and I’m still slightly in shock I was able to find one of these figures. There are also two older variants of the character for the RAH figure line, which are not in the database so far as I have not been able to find too much accurate information regarding their release. Nonetheless I haven’t seen those pop up anywhere recently. They’re much older having been released in 1999 and were both limited to 999 figures. Despite their rarity I do hope to own them one day.

3. What is the most expensive figure you ever bought?

Currently the most I’ve spent on a figure was $320 for ITEM #604593. Which may soon be trumped by ITEM #745657 which is a little ironic.

4. How long have you been figure collecting? How did it start?
View spoilerHide spoiler I purchased my first figure years ago but wasn’t seriously into collecting until the past two years I’d say.

The oldest figure(s) I own hail from
the same set of figures with them being released in 1997:
ITEM #29146
ITEM #24375

Apart from them my oldest “actual figure” as in a non-trading figure, would be ITEM #820280 with it being released in 2007. A whole year older than the other “actual figure(s)” I thought were my oldest. Which is just crazy to think about to me.

Thank you for reading and for putting forth these interesting questions. I had a ton of fun reading everyone else’s responses as well as going through my collection to answer the questions myself. ( ´ ▽ ` )

1. Yes, most of my figures are preowned. ITEM #169540 and ITEM #24803 were both some 70+% off, somewhere between 2 and 3k yen and unopened.
2. Not entirely sure what else qualifies but ITEM #12249 definitely. ITEM #13724 as well.
3. ITEM #117705 , it wasn't that expensive but proxy fees and the cost of having it painted and assembled did add up so overall it was like 50% more than anything else I have. For "normal" figures I think ITEM #65671 at around 8k yen but the fluctuating exchange rates make this hard to answer.
4. Started around 2006-7 or something like that. I think I saw some figures in an anime and thought "I wish figures existed in real life" then realized they do.
5. If I can believe the database, this is from 1994 : ITEM #41604 , several other plushes from 1995. Oldest PVC figure is ITEM #16459 from 1999.

Hi!
Thanks for asking.

1) I order Pre-Owned figures all the time, mostly from amiami. Probably my best deal was Prisma Illya Beast ver. from Broccoli ITEM #287678 I got in aftermarket for $85 shortly after her release, considering she goes for well over $300 now.

2) Yes, Seyada Tara from Daiki Kougyou ITEM #1618.
I'm familiar with the series from which she's from but I was mostly drawn to the sculpt, the detail and unique design, to say nothing of the sheer scale of a 1/4 and having an interesting LED light-up head piece. She comes with a nice base, too. She's pretty much the whole package.

While she's not super rare, she goes for a very high price tag. I had her on my wish list for years and assumed I'd never find her for a halfway reasonable price and in good condition, until fairly recently she turned up on amiami in A/B condition for about $270.

3) The most expensive figure I bought to date would also be Seyada Tara ITEM #1618 but with Native's Neko Para Chocola and Vanilla PICTURE #2029353 on PO, due out at the end of the year, that's about to change.

4) I'm fairly new to collecting compared to most. It's been about 4 years now. It started with a figure I had on my Amazon wish list for several years ITEM #4396. At the time, the figure appealed to me but just wasn't in the mindset of spending that kind of money on a figure.

Years later, I started reading up on anime figures and scales and just browsing figure and reviews sites, etc. and the bug hit me and revisited my wish list and saw that she since dropped in a price so I pulled the trigger.

5) My oldest figure would probably have to be Djibril ITEM #1519 from Makai Tenshi Djibril, released in 2005. I wasn't familiar with the HVN at the time but came across it while browsing figures when I first start collecting and thought she looked cute and wasn't expensive.

Thanks for taking the time. It's a great discussion subject.
