My humble collection as of February 2019My humble collection as of February 2019Diary

Hello there.

After months of indecision, I made up my mind and decided it was time to go for it and write a blog post on MFC. Due to the facts that there will be a lot of pictures, most of them will be behind spoilers for your reading confort. Before we start, do note that photos have been taken with a tablet and I kind of have two left hands, so please excuse the occasional blur. This blog post will cover figures, anime series (all my movies, be they animated or live-action, are in two other shelves), manga and artbooks.

You will notice that all my figures are scales and/or prizes. This is mostly because of bad memories I had with jointed figures back when I was a Myth Cloth collector (like falling arms or holes in the belly).

Among those figures, there are several that hold a special place in my heart, namely ITEM #1237 (because it was my first scale figure, bought at my first convention back in 2007 and because although Mai isn't my favorite HiME, she sure is in the top 7) and ITEM #109879 (because Iskandar is, along with Jeanne d'Arc, my favorite Servant and because it was a birthday gift from my former childhood friend who was like my brother to me and who kicked me, literally and figuratively, out of his life for a petty reason so it's actually a mixed bag, feelings-wise).

As you can see, I use Ferrero boxes to raise my figures, so I can combine the pleasant and the useful. This is really useful when some of the scales are different or, like on the bottom "floor" with the Futari wa Precure duo. Also because someone thought it was a bright idea to only have one peg for Cure White when the figure is slightly bent backwards and has her hair weight to take into account... This is why I have them against the glass.

The funny thing with being a French anime/manga fan is that although we are thge second biggest consumers right after Japan, there are series that still aren't licensed while the USA have them (and vice versa). Thus, I don't have as many physical anime series (and heavens know what I wouldn't do to get some new blood, like Precure) as I'd like.

You may notice that some of my boxes are faded. That's because my living room (where my DVD are) as well as my bedroom (where the manga are) face east, so direct sunlight wasn't really kind to my stuff. My figures also are in the living room, but thankfully, they're against the east wall, so they're safe.

Just like with anime, I probably don't have as many manga as I'd like. One of the other reasons is that there loads and loads of manga available, the only problem is choosing. And I'm not really the kind of guy to pick long-running series (although I do follow Berserk) since they generally have too many volumes, and I don't have that much space availablke...

I didn't include a picture of the few American comics I own, but you can see some of my bandes dessinées. My Astérix collection is really precious to me (even if some are fucked up and were "fixed" with red tape) since it belonged to my favorite grandfather (and they all are from the original year of publication); I have them as some kind of memento/duty of memory. And since I really like Astérix (at least when Goscinny was the writer), it's perfedctly timely.

Among the artbooks I own, ITEM #43723 holds a special place in my heart. It was my age of majority birthday gift from one of my tabletop role-playing group friends who was (just like me) a die-hard/hardcore fan of Saint Seiya. I'll never that whole series marathon we did together, it was truly awesome. Sadly, I lost track of him when we both moved to different parts of France. At least, it didn't end bad between us.

And now, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. It was my pleasure sharing this with you, I hope you liked it.

Heldrik, over and out.

Heldrik1 år sedan#52334531Indeed, Gunslinger Girl is an amazing tragic story (at least the manga and first anime season) with great characters like Henrietta and Triela that didn't get as much love as it should have. Shame about that trainwreck of a second season...

The second season as a whole in terms of plot wasn't bad, and the music was nice and for the most part the characters were the same... However that's where most of my praise ends. Henrietta screeching at the sight of Jose's shirt in the first episode... thank god they toned it down in the dub! They really tried to up the moe factor for the girls, all the blushing when they spoke to their handlers was so excessive! >_<

I recently rewatched the first and second seasons and going from the first season to the second hurt my eyes. D: The animation and character design was god awful!! It didn't deserve such cheapness! :( I did notice that the last 2-3 episodes plus the OVAs had a bigger budget, which were the best of the season anyway.

When the second season came out the Gunslinger Girl community I was (am) in exploded with negativity and anger as each episode passed. It was so so sad to see how our beautiful show was turned into garbage. :( It still burns me to this day.

To tell you the truth, I didn't watch School Rumble, I ought to fix this one day or another... Did you buy the box set online?
As a matter of fact, it's a mixed bag. It can be ridiculous (like 60 € for a 3 DVD box set when the previous four had five DVDs or basically 100 € for a 13 episodes anime) and it can be cool, like 10 € for a box set (you see this a lot during conventions with a company like Manga Distribution).

I bought it online. At least the money spent was not in vain, as it reminds me always to look out for the correct region and language. If only I had the time to watch everything I want to, than my only problem would be money instead of time x money... :p

Rally_Vincent1 år sedan#52541516I had to look up the what I know now is to be the figure from Witchblade (ITEM #311) because it looks really good. I am considering getting it even though I probably won't watch the anime.
Whenever I search for Anime to buy, I noticed that there is a lot of Anime I'd like to get in France - I once even accidentally bought School Rumble only to find out that the subtitles were French (My french is, well - §#![, pardon my French). How lucky you guys are. Hope they don't charge you thrice the price they try to do over here...
Thanks for the tour.

You're welcome, glad you liked it.

The fact is that the figure, being the only one of Masane in plain/casual clothes, does look good. To be honest, the anime was kinda weird at times, but damn, was it good to hear sweet Mamiko Noto play a badass mom, and her relation with Rihoko was really heartwarming.
View spoilerHide spoilerI don't know how much you're ready to put for the figure if you decide to jump ahead, but I see that there's a French user on MFC that sells it CLASSIFIED #124624

I guess it can/could happen (maybe in shops near the border?) since some of our biggest anime-specialized companies like Kaze and Dybex sometimes have dutch subtitles, since they also sell in Benelux countries.

Rajke1 år sedan#52448430Great collection. I love your Jeanne d'Arc display.
Thanks. I had to do it that way because Jeanne Alter was a bit taller than I expected. Ferrero boxes really are useful to raise figures.

KalasRaven1 år sedan#52321177I seeeeee Henrietta!!!! <3333 Gunslinger Girl is always such a great thing to see in someone's collection! It deserves so much more recognition and love! ^_^
Your figures look great together and everything is so nicely organized!! Great collection!! :3

Thank you very much. I try to be organized when it comes to stuff like books, DVDs or figures, otherwise I like to have an "organized mess" on my working/computer desk.

BlazeDazzleDusk1 år sedan#52323039Great collection, especially those Madoka figures!
Thank you, I really dig those PMMM prize figures. One of my goals is to buy Kyouko and Homura so I can have the complete Holy Quintet. One day...

I'm also a fan of Satoshi's art.
I had some of his art books and anime adaptations on VHS back in the day.

Thanks a lot. Satoshi "King of the Nipple" Urushihara is one of my favorite Japanese artists, and not only hentai-wise. The way he draws is just great. Needless to say, I was kinda bummed out when I heard the upcoming remake of Langrisser would not retain his character-designs... The only animated works I've seen where he was involved is Front Innocent (episode 2 never), I should really try to find some Plastic Little or Legend of Lemnear.
jazzylin1 år sedan#52327798Nice collection! I’m so jealous of your Waver figure, he’s my #1 grail right now!
Many thanks. I musy say I was lucky to find him: it was thanks to a fellow MFC user who tipped me off that he was available at basically 50%. I didn't think twice and went for it. I wish you the best of luck in finding him at a decent price.
