REVIEW: Myethos Fairytale -Another- Queen Of Hearts

IMPORTANT NOTE: This figure is NOT and CANNOT be listed on the MFC database due to it fulfilling both of the criteria below:
1) Of a non-Japanese character
2) Manufactured by a non-Japanese company (Myethos is a figure company based in China-Hong Kong)

PICTURE-HEAVY REVIEW ONCOMING.

This is the first figure I have ever bought without first knowing of the origin of the design, character or manufacturer company. I decided to own this figure simply because I LOVED how it looked.

I actually first stumbled upon a photo of this figure here on MFC just ONE month ago while looking at photos of one of my wishlist figures - she happened to be posed next to it... and suffice to say, I immediately fell in love with her. I looked at the comments - noted the manufacturer company name and the figure name and decided to go hunting.

http://i68.tinypic.com/2aahwr9.jpg
I have no idea who the artist who drew the beautiful image this figure was modeled after - but it is a fresh, attractive and modernistic representation of the Queen Of Hearts.

After some intense searching online, I found her in a local store. I got her for a grand total (shipping included) equivalent of JPY 13,000+ - a rather nice price for me, though the shop had earlier warned me that the box was badly damaged but claimed the figure was mint and sealed. They had had her for quite some time apparently (and never took care of her properly from what I could see of the store photos). I decided to purchase her anyway - I just wanted her so badly and her starting price in the foreign stores (Japan or otherwise) were not to my pocket's liking.

And just a little summary about this figure and the line it belongs to, before I move on to the figure per se. (in case you are new to Myethos - like I was - and love their figures - like I do). This Queen Of Hearts figure is the FOURTH figure in their FairyTale line (which features different fairy tale characters). They had earlier produced their first Snow White, then Red Riding Hood and then Alice In Wonderland (which is gorgeous, and also one of my two current Myethos wishlist figures). Queen Of Hearts will then be followed by White Rabbit (which is due in April/May this year) - I love how they are revolving around the Alice in Wonderland theme (wouldn't it be cool if they created a male Cheshire cat figure? And I hope they do come out with the Mad Hatter eventually as one user had previously stated). And then there will be a ??Little Mermaid in future, I don't know how concrete these future figures are - but I am loving the concept of these Fairytale figures.

I don't know the reason for the 'Another' in their names though. XD

THE BOX: 8/10
So the figure arrived today, sporting damages to the box as expected. There are dents to the upper corners of the front of the box but the lovely posterior of the box was mostly undisturbed - and I actually thought the back design of the box was so much more prettier and should have been fashioned as the front instead XD

The colour is a predominant dark red-brown and black, and the lettering and patterns are done in foil gold colour, which was a very nice contrast. I love the gold profile drawing of the figure on the back, it looks so vintage! The front of the box has a heart-shaped window showing the figure inside. Random note: I found it quite interesting how the background was all diamond-shaped and then they had all the French suits patterns in gold except the diamond.

The sides of the box are the same plain dark red-brown colour and each side shows a queen's crown and a queen chess piece, respectively. The store seller did not tell me about the chess piece motif being faded on one side - that was a bit of a downer but boxes don't matter too much to me.

The queen chess piece in this figure is actually sort of contradictory - because while the sides of the crown appears to be the queen's, the cross in the middle is usually borne by the king chess piece - the queen's is usually much shorter and round. I assume this to symbolize that the Queen is also the supreme ruler XD

I thought the overall box design was quite plain, but I really adored the back design of the box and would have loved if they had incorporated the same pattern to the other surfaces of the box - even without the window, it would have been very vintage and classy. But the contrast between the gold lettering and motifs worked very well against the dark colours.

The box is rather wide and tall - so shipping may be a bit pricey if you are getting it from somewhere far off.

THE PACKAGING: 9/10
The packaging was pretty standard - it came in two big plastic shells with some foam cutouts to protect the more fragile aspects of the figure.
http://i67.tinypic.com/fuykus.jpg
I appreciate that they used a lot of sticky plastic films to protect the figure - these were everywhere! Around her hair, her chest, over her legs, her cloak, her shoes, the ribbon-like banners at the bottom of the figure - I had to literally manuever my fingers with surgical efficiency to get to and remove some of them without actually damaging the figure. Ironically despite all the protective plastic and films - my figure suffered a damage (more on that below) where it was not protected - the base.

The figure comes in two pieces - the main figure and the magnetized crown accessory. The packaging also comes with a note on how to use the crown accessory and the lovely original picture that this Queen Of Hearts figure was based on.

THE BASE: 9/10
The Queen comes fixed to the base and is very stable, so there is no additional meddling needed. The base of this figure is one of the best and most elaborate I have ever seen. It is made up of a main piece in the shape of a large spade (or an inverted heart, however you see it) on which the Queen perches. The spade is a very nice glossy black with equally-glossy red-and-black chessboard background motif over it. And here is my only obvious damage to the figure - in the center of that spade is a white scratch mark. I am not sure if it was a manufacturer defect or damage suffered during storage/shipping - but I don't think I can do anything about it. It was quite a disappointment because of its location in a rather obvious area of the figure.
There is an adorable hollowed heart in the base of the main piece.

http://i63.tinypic.com/2akaf86.jpg
The base also has an accompanying black queen chess piece, on which the Queen places her (extremely glamorous) left stiletto-ed foot. There's plenty of symbolism here in this figure - and there's plenty of references to the queen and hearts.
Also alongside the queen chess piece, is a trident (or at least I think it is) with three red banners attached to it. I don't really know the symbol of this one - probably war with the Queen as the victor? Regardless, the banners are done very nicely - they are soft PVC and even shaded darker along the periphery.

THE SCULPT: 9/10
THE PAINT: 9/10
The only accessory for this figure is the red-and-black crown, which is finely detailed and conveniently magnetized to sit on the Queen's head.
http://i63.tinypic.com/24g515h.jpg

The sculpt on this figure is magnificent. I thought the face and eyes were prettily done. Her cleavage was also sexy, without any over-exaggeration.
Her hair is really good too, I love the bangs and her two wavy ponytails. The colour changes from root to tip, from a bright to a very dark red. Her two curly ponytails are VERY fragile so do exercise caution if you are touching any of those areas.

http://i66.tinypic.com/347zcav.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/20hned0.jpg

I love the Queen's dress. Despite it being a full red attire, I loved how they managed to paint with different gradients of the red and black to produce the beautiful outfit. Her outfit has great details - from the striped bodice to the layered skirt (with alternating shades of colour), to her coloured stockings, and the sexy black garters. They even fashioned a nice gold clasp to hold her red cloak at the waist.

http://i65.tinypic.com/v58k0h.jpg
Her cloak itself is also nicely detailed with proper folds. It is bright red with a single white heart in the middle. It is tied with a big black ribbon which flares out to form bat-like wings.

http://i65.tinypic.com/2zgdmxj.jpg

The inner layer of the cloak is even sculpted to appear to have fur-like texture - great detailing right there!
http://i63.tinypic.com/2niba5f.jpg

Her stilettos are glossy black and sporting the spike patterns of a Queen's crown. Her stockings are two different shades of red, and with a somewhat glossy sheen to it (especially seen in the darker maroon one) which I really like.

THE POSE: 10/10
Full marks for pose for me. It's sexy, confident, dominating and showcases her outfit so well. Even from the back, she looks majestic!

And she pretty much looks fantastic at any angle.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I was so grateful I chanced upon her photo on this site sometime ago, and got exposed to this figure line and had the opportunity to get my hands on this particular figure.

She is one of the more beautiful and detailed figures I have had by far, despite not belonging to any particular series or character. I absolutely adore the design of this figure - it's just so regal and elegant! I don't really have any bad critiques for this Queen Of Hearts, just that mine came with that small imperfection.

Hoping to get Alice someday - though that's pretty bleak considering how rare she had gotten and the crazy afterprices. But for now, I am supremely satisfied with this FairyTale Queen Of Hearts and would rate her a 9.8/10.

PROS
- Gorgeous figure sculpt
- Very eye-catching colour and design

I pre-ordered this figure and received her at launch. She immediately dethroned all the others to take her place as the centerpiece of my scale display.

Personally, I really like the box. In fact, I even display the box with the Queen's silhouette facing outward. I love the finished wood texture of it and the gilded designs. It's really a unique box.

I really love Myethos. They make very beautiful figures. I reviewed 2 of them if someone wants to check them out, just go through my articles. ^^ Can't wait to get the White Rabbit (hopefully) in April. <3 And see the prototype for the mermaid! =0

Ohh she's also the one who drew Wisteria! Thanks for the info.

surenintendo (1 månad sedan) #52261718Great review. I didn't think there'd be figures of such high caliber not listed on MFC. I guess I'll need to keep my eyes peeled out :o Myethos and Hobby Max are probably the main two to keep an eye on right now, though there are a few others. Both of these have been producing figures of both Japanese as well as Chinese properties such as Girls Frontline and Azure Lane. Unfortunately due to current policies on MFC, these Chinese figures can't be added creating growing gaps in the database.

CLUB #1507 and CLUB #1528 are two clubs I created to help people keep track and discuss their figures for the time being.

Yes she was there for a few days for 15k+ if I recall correctly, and I think her label of heavy shipping scared a lot of potential buyers. How much was the shipping you had to pay?
