Chi-Chi Cosplay projectChi-Chi Cosplay project

This article will be very picture heavy!

Because of the (quite unexpected, to be honest) positive reactions I got on my previous cosplay project blog BLOG #20041 , I decided to also make a blog about my Chi-Chi costume project!

Why Chi-Chi?

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1978201/chichi.JPG

Chi-Chi is quite different from everything I cosplayed so far tinyurl.com/maa..., right? Well, from a very young age I became a big fan of (the original) Dragon Ball. It was one of the first (maybe even the first) anime I ever saw on TV and also the first manga I ever picked up from a store. I have very special memories from this series and I always loved Chi-Chi. She looked incredibly cute, was very though, but became all girly and fiddly when her crush was around! Awww!

On top of that, as a cosplayer, I wanted to practice more with making armor. Chi-Chi's costume is great for that! I bought the above figure as reference material which is a great excuse to buy a figure in general and started working on it!

Just like my previous cosplay blog, I will talk about everything piece-by-piece and not chronologically. I hope the story is still consistant enough to follow! I started with making this costume for fun, but I was lured into signing up for a cosplay competition with it, so I also had a though deadline where I couldn't remake every part that I wanted from it!

Helmet

The part I thought would be the hardest and I wanted to tackle first was the helmet. This was also my first-ever time making one!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gIA1UbvtpkY/Vh6cOo4sihI/AAAAAAAADz0/dwMdGklVEYY/s720-Ic42/IMG_3546.JPG

As I had no clue where to start, I decided to look up a tutorial and found this amazing one from Ted Smith (professional costume- and propmaker from movies and tv-series): View spoilerHide spoiler

(part 2 of 3)

(part 3 of 3)

Seriously, industry-professionals having a Youtube channel that they use to show how they make their amazing stuff are the best!

Back to my story: I started off with making a pattern from a foam head that is almost the same size as my own head.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0ZBWq44Kbqc/Vh6cOhOVO2I/AAAAAAAADz4/1VvqJhgQ0Fg/s912-Ic42/IMG_3547.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yEtfdPjthz0/Vh6cQAWjWlI/AAAAAAAAD0I/w6u7qkt-P_Q/s912-Ic42/IMG_3550.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--5ZPycbW6K8/Vh6cQ1fQULI/AAAAAAAAD7c/67_J1NKAXf8/s912-Ic42/IMG_3551.JPG

At first it's just a lot of pushing the stuff in place with a lot of strength and glue inbetween.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aqvWfQBD9EQ/Vh6cRcAI1UI/AAAAAAAAD0Y/PQRyzzZIwRg/s720-Ic42/IMG_3552.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tlDPlMlPMAM/Vh6cRtQ50NI/AAAAAAAAD0k/Al_9DkcfdGs/s720-Ic42/IMG_3556.JPG

So...these are pictures from my first version of the helmet. Let me start with saying I was not that happy about it, haha! Because of using too much force, the helmet started showing cracks here and there. Also the shape was completely wrong and it looked more like an egg. But hey, it was my first time I made a helmet, so I just brushed it off and started working on a version 2 from the things I've learned!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mnvUb_tOYsk/Vh6cSD61GsI/AAAAAAAAD0o/rKj3qb9eifg/s720-Ic42/IMG_3557.JPG

This was the base for version 2, I was a lot more pleased with this one and started shaping it more to become like Chi-Chi's helmet!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-q87E5PQzxi4/Vh6cSZ-L7pI/AAAAAAAAD0w/Dot8tKdVOnw/s720-Ic42/IMG_3560.JPG

Because of all the waiting for drying I was going through, I decided to draw a face on the wighead (also because the wighead was already showing a lot of damages because of the heating shaping I did on it), so eh try to not pay too much attention to it. In this picture most of the foam was strengthened with the heat gun and extra glue. I also started shaping the front part.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-M0v2D9xzGnE/Vh6cS8sPWaI/AAAAAAAAD04/0pWJfMEVck0/s720-Ic42/IMG_3561.JPG

I was refilling, sanding and smoothing out a lot of parts. In general I don't make much pictures of that process, as it's incredibly boring to do and to watch people do! Even though it's a very important part when making a costume and something you can't escape if you want to make helmets/armor/props.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lWKYeDBKpGk/Vh6cctRAyCI/AAAAAAAAD2o/dhu6qURJr6k/s912-Ic42/IMG_3593.JPG

After being happy with the shape and a lot of sanding, I started measuring out where all the details were going to be.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eN46Uqfo5fI/Vh6cdZgIYmI/AAAAAAAAD2w/l8t4yaETwv4/s720-Ic42/IMG_3596.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9PfUqBViaxw/Vh6cd7ZMRjI/AAAAAAAAD28/4B1tS299Vc4/s720-Ic42/IMG_3602.JPG

Chi-Chi has holes in her helmet where you can see her hair peeking through. In the middle I made a place where I could later insert (and remove) her blade. I was really nitpicky about wanting the blade to be removeable just like the real thing.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L9XkbszV8f8/Vh6cemzxNjI/AAAAAAAAD3A/8TJwVJIu1Tg/s720-Ic42/IMG_3603.JPG

First version of the blade. It's so heavy! It's still completely wearable, but I have to keep my balance very well while wearing it. View spoilerHide spoilerAnd look at my reference-cutie next to the helmet!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6Rs2wwoHkTc/Vh6crZUjq3I/AAAAAAAAD48/n_zxSIezLxo/s912-Ic42/IMG_5006.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BBKSgFGK05o/Vh6cr-1pgrI/AAAAAAAAD5A/wTKTlffK3lM/s720-Ic42/IMG_5008.JPG

Painting and detailing time!

And now let's get to the part how not every idea is a good idea and I sometimes think to myself "why did I even try to make this work"?

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VK6UDpQKQc0/Vh6csxyvTFI/AAAAAAAAD5M/8rXlPvB8QMo/s912-Ic42/IMG_5009.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wGHN1jldrgw/Vh6ctfOLziI/AAAAAAAAD5U/VvqZT18lje4/s720-Ic42/IMG_5010.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tYON1eAHyiE/Vh6cto8zeBI/AAAAAAAAD5Y/doVvqJ5tKeg/s720-Ic42/IMG_5011.JPG

For some reason I had the bright idea that I could use small pieces of foam to cover the gaps I had inbetween the detailing and the helmet itself. When I woke up the next morning and saw this monstrosity I though to myself "had I been drinking? what the heck happened here?" and spend the next day trying to remove everything with the least damage possible.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-58gfcApkXEY/Vh6cyYCg9qI/AAAAAAAAD6I/jT4V6jr2nk0/s720-Ic42/IMG_5181.JPG

The best way to fix this mess was filling everything up that I damaged, re-sand it and repaint a lot of parts over again...I want to give a slap to my past me for this.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XDA0T_Iab1A/Vh6czcqO1iI/AAAAAAAAD6Q/yaY6FkT-NbA/s720-Ic42/IMG_5182.JPG

With the filling drying I went back with my attention to the head blade.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LFvGjZ2tnqE/Vh6c04_4CCI/AAAAAAAAD6k/U6-cn0_wbuI/s912-Ic42/IMG_5191.JPG

For the gem on Chi-Chi's helmet I went for a glass piece, which I detailed with more foam.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m-EIP89BzS0/Vh6c0x-nBVI/AAAAAAAAD6g/Q_3DRzX9JX8/s720-Ic42/IMG_5192.JPG

And here is the final result! If I would re-do it, I would make a lot of the parts cleaner, especially the silver details that show some small breakages. Still, I think this is not bad for my first helmet.

Armor

Chi-Chi wears...well, I guess you can call it bikini armor? They are small panties and a bra accompanied with shoulderplates.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wKZAnucJzTU/Vh6cTeEDMcI/AAAAAAAAD1A/5O_KotqvcgQ/s720-Ic42/IMG_3567.JPG

Instead of following rules, I'm more the type to test out and adjust parts while I'm making them (only when I know what I'm doing, with the helmet above I used a tutorial). I always start out with a paper prototype and if that prototype works out well, I make patterns from them. The black mannequin you see is one I made of myself and it has my own sizes. It's perfect for working on cosplay, because I know that everything I make on the mannequin will fit me too! View spoilerHide spoilerI just re-measure myself every once in a while to see if I didn't get a lot fatter or thinner and see if the mannequin is still good. xD

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uD0h8qlYUsU/Vh6cUmbxu-I/AAAAAAAAD1M/ls6o_Q4YJH0/s720-Ic42/IMG_3572.JPG

First test pieces for the panty and top armor!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sWbcSBzhO_Y/Vh6cXNmM2nI/AAAAAAAAD1c/71BsVWcF4jQ/s912-Ic42/IMG_3574.JPG

Even though Chi-Chi's Chi-Chi's are chibi, cups had to be made too of course!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qD1JczRazQ0/Vh6cW5nVeVI/AAAAAAAAD1g/uBEvBQcsRLg/s912-Ic42/IMG_3575.JPG

Dragon Ball-style shoulderplates are quite funny if you look at the patterns and/or unshaped ones.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hbWf2pgJw7g/Vh6cZITav8I/AAAAAAAAD18/bCGBgQpyARw/s912-Ic42/IMG_3582.JPG

I had quite a hard time finding the right shade of dark blue, but I'm pretty content with how this color turned out! View spoilerHide spoilerYou can see some leftovers on the cardboard for my earlier painted Smileys masks www.cosplay.com...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DRCD9lZWr9Y/Vh6cYSWVLVI/AAAAAAAAD10/xrDGtNSOk1Y/s1021-Ic42/IMG_3584.JPG

Inbetween I made Chi-Chi's necklace! There is a snap button on the backside. This is a small part, but it's very important for this costume as I will wear a bodysuit. The necklace is worn at the part where it bodysuit changes to my real body and it (hopefully) helps to make everything look more natural.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aqhOOqCgG74/Vh6can1hd1I/AAAAAAAAD2I/cyrywQrGdsM/s912-Ic42/IMG_3588.JPG

Heatgun-time! I always think it's funny how parts look burned so quickly, but nothing of that will be visible after undercoating and painting! View spoilerHide spoilerSorry for the blurry picture of the shoulderplates, but with work-in-progress if my pictures turn out bad, I can never re-make them because I'm already at the next step! D:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0JgYASlhZy0/Vh6cbz8Z--I/AAAAAAAAD2U/KTk5Zixbnp8/s912-Ic42/IMG_3590.JPG

Making the details for the chest plate made me sweat and curse quite a lot, because it was so small and fragile!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xdKAu4lWkdI/Vh6cdpFQ_VI/AAAAAAAAD20/Yeo2KnQJ1TY/s720-Ic42/IMG_3597.JPG

I forget to take pictures from the undercoating process a lot, but not this time! So the process you see here happens with at least 3 layers and most of them have to be undercoated in 2-4 different positions so everything can dry well. How long the drying process takes depends on the weather, but on a general (quite cold) day in the Netherlands this can take a full day. So it's a lot of waiting time for me and I try to undercoat as much pieces as possible in one go.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ywYnZUuzyH8/Vh6cfokvPII/AAAAAAAAD3I/cLdEbFmr30U/s912-Ic42/IMG_4661.JPG

I always love it when I finally can get to painting! Parts of a costume start to look better very quick already after some basic paint is applied! View spoilerHide spoilerNot related to this costume, but the bat you see on the left was a work in progress for our Miria and Isaac baseball costumes: www.cosplay.com...

I got a lot of questions from people asking how I the shoulderplates stay in place because there is nothing it attaches to. Well, it attaches to my bodysuit! I know that this is cheating though, because most people don't wear bodysuits with cosplays.

Clothing-parts

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-k2GJkJLNtuU/Vh6cYJ3kElI/AAAAAAAAD1s/KNYw6GDIrYo/s912-Ic42/IMG_3581.JPG

As for the clothing parts, Chi-Chi only wears an top, a cape and gloves. And also these are in basic pink and green. Shopping for these fabrics was possibly the easiest fabric shopping that I ever did for a costume! I also handmade shoe covers, which I will include here, considering it uses the same fabric.

Shoes

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qtCVqQpO_Zk/Vh6ciq_YfpI/AAAAAAAAD3o/5RBVyVXlsMg/s912-Ic42/IMG_4941.JPG

Well, I'll just start with talking about the shoe covers. Chi-Chi wears very cute boots. Considering the size of these boots, I decided to grab my favorite pair of sneakers and make a pattern around it for her boots.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f1ftzeNVg2w/Vh6ckYxxECI/AAAAAAAAD34/8z0Gwpz-PBM/s912-Ic42/IMG_4942.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I11R_WKcUvM/Vh6ckW2u-uI/AAAAAAAAD30/76pR8oUW3UA/s912-Ic42/IMG_4957.JPG

To make sure the boots would keep their shape, I made a foam base and covered this foam base with fabric. If I would re-do this part, I would have made the seamline less obvious, but I'm still quite happy with how this turned out!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XaLVxfQCqRI/Vh6cmOIdJRI/AAAAAAAAD4M/5MefAWAONUU/s720-Ic42/IMG_4994.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fZT_cvak-oI/Vh6cp3xHXmI/AAAAAAAAD4w/w6DbHg5zZLM/s912-Ic42/IMG_4998.JPG

Now it was time for the details on the boots!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LUZZ7ohtWLI/Vh6cu-ZSgpI/AAAAAAAAD5g/KSvGs6V63HM/s912-Ic42/IMG_5012.JPG

The finished boot covers! Not perfect, but they turned out better than I expected!

Gloves

I think gloves are always really hard to make and I greatly dislike working on them. Before this costume I've made 4 pairs and each of them fell apart quite quickly, no matter which tutorial I followed to make them. Because of that, I mainly buy gloves nowadays and alter them if needed. Considering the quite special sized and detailed gloves Chi-Chi has, this was no option this time and I had to make them fully myself.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wITdZ0ru8GI/Vh6cmhOt-iI/AAAAAAAAD4Q/pVATn-vDh3Q/s912-Ic42/IMG_4959.JPG

This was my first version of the gloves, which I greatly disliked. The fit around my fingers was really bad, so I had to throw them out and work on a second version.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N9Ga2XI3jwM/Vh6cnuY7tpI/AAAAAAAAD4Y/tPUHRN5dU9I/s912-Ic42/IMG_4995.JPG

I was a lot happier with the second version of my gloves! Even though I didn't like the fit around my fingers, I was quite content with how I made the outer shape (I used a likewise method as how I made the boots covers). I wanted to make the gloves big!

Arm- and legcovers

Sticking out of the gloves and shoes, Chi-Chi has some green fabric likewise to her cape. To be honest, I couldn't really point out in the design what these were, so I ended up just making small covers to have the effect.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-p4Jts9KKzbw/Vh6cyDNbK-I/AAAAAAAAD6E/9n88X3I6Mnw/s912-Ic42/IMG_5101.JPG

The pattern and making of these was quite simple. There is actually not much to show, haha!

Cape and top

Even though the cape and top are seperate parts, I decided that construction-wise it was better to cheat and put them together. That way the weight of the cape was on the top, my chest and my back instead of resting on the shoulderplates.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-376KRurYGzM/Vh6cqNCD-cI/AAAAAAAAD4s/Sm2e-qashCU/s720-Ic42/IMG_4999.JPG

This is the completely barbaric way of how I make patterns. If someone that studied fashion/clothes design or a professional clothes/costume maker sees this, he/she would probably smack me on the back of my head.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fjLEJQNblmo/Vh6cwmaGPzI/AAAAAAAAD50/j70KkVNjbQI/s912-Ic42/IMG_5085.JPG

This was the biggest piece of fabric I had to sew for this costume! I remember struggling so much with it, while it's actually a joke compared to a lot of other costumes I've made.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3gUni8iwg_Y/Vh6cxlqXUXI/AAAAAAAAD6A/BOOOeKrQ5aw/s912-Ic42/IMG_5086.JPG

The finished top is actually quite cute in design if I say so myself!

Wig

Working on all those fabric and armor parts, you would almost forget that a wig is needed to! Chi-Chi's hairstyle is a variation of a hime-cut, which I already cut multiple times, but I wanted to make this one a bit more special.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bQv2r_4oaEY/Vh6cwoW_tTI/AAAAAAAAD5s/GH-tDK4T7ak/s720-Ic42/IMG_5042.JPG

I started out with a basic cheap, messy and unevenly cut wig.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yQfqjjKa_oY/Vh6c1DDqsLI/AAAAAAAAD6o/6C5dSW_hcP0/s912-Ic42/IMG_5325.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6MOQaOW7p_4/Vh6c4LV83eI/AAAAAAAAD7I/2xsywvfaxBA/s912-Ic42/IMG_5332.JPG

In Chi-Chi's character design most of her hair pieces are quite "square" and I decided I wanted to literally recreate this effect. On the sides she has pointy not-fitting parts.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HgZOkAne5Rw/Vh6c4awcaxI/AAAAAAAAD7U/fL1jR6ZeSEU/s720-Ic42/IMG_5333.JPG

The bangs had to be re-cut. Most wigs you buy online come with really uneven and/or incredibly long bangs.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IwMPCvgE_wk/Vh6c55H_gfI/AAAAAAAAD7k/2jB1cwN6CRM/s720-Ic42/IMG_5336.JPG

I also wanted the "square" effect here!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zoJFONnKckM/Vh6c6ssHs1I/AAAAAAAAD7s/Jb5yYaKh0Fw/s720-Ic42/IMG_5338.JPG

I was very pleased when I tested the finished wig! The hair at the bangs was very thick and the hime-cut turned out quite nice.

Teaser

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ulGuRQnsS2k/Vh6c8wbJ7AI/AAAAAAAAD8M/gP2KIlG5GI4/s720-Ic42/IMG_5376.JPG

When the costume was close to finishing I uploaded this teaser to show what I had so far and also to show how the design from the cape and top works View spoilerHide spoilerthe fabric at the top of my shoulders is not visible when wearing the wig and this was also before ironing everything, so pardon the small mess :P.

I myself was amazed how such a skimpy outfit could still have so much parts and details. It was about the same amount of work that I did for way more clothed characters!

The competition

So, even though I told myself "no more competitions for a while", I signed up for a local competition with this costume. As an act I decided to do the part with Chi-Chi's first appearance in the series (where she battles a dinosaur) combined with her picking flowers for Goku.

Unfortunately the 3 people I asked to record my act all didn't manage to record it. On the other hand a few things on stage went bad, so I think I'm not that sad about it, as I would prefer not to see it back as I don't feel very comfortable about it. ^-^'' When it comes to photography while I was on stage, that turned out to be quite the disappointment. I checked all the photographers from last years' competition and a few new ones, but almost everyone seemed to have skipped going to the solo competitions and I only found pictures from the duo and group competitions. I only got one myself...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DRXkuvwNjsE/Vh6c9eO7T-I/AAAAAAAAD8Y/-xeGgOP-7JQ/s720-Ic42/stagepic.jpg
Picture on higher resolution here: www.cosplay.com...

Which I actually quite like, because it's just after the part where I throw the blade from my helmet. That was the whole reason I made the it removable!

Anyway, the competition was quite stressfull for me. I did a lot of test rounds at home and was wearing the costume since 6AM that morning without any problems and when it was almost time for me to get on stage (around 3PM) parts started to malfunction, so I got quite stressed thinking "what if something breaks or falls off on stage?" Of course I was wearing a body suit, but it would look horrible... Luckily everything went quite well, but I think it was also one of the reasons why I screwed up during the act. As you probably expected, I ended up not winning anything, but I only enter for fun on stage!

The feedback from (cosplay) friends and family I got was quite nice. People weren't necessarily impressed with the costume or act, but they said it was really nice to see an "old" design character, considering most cosplay competitions here nowadays are filled with people in big fantasy armors in likewise styles (not that there is anything wrong with that, but you see a lot of likewise outfits in a competition over here).

Photoshoot

Inbetween my pre-judging in the morning and the afternoon where I had to be on stage I had a photoshoot with RE:PLICA / MikoBura, who also has an account here: BURA She is also a cosplayer and a huge Dragon Ball fan. I've never had a shoot with her before, but I'm very happy with the results! Below are my 2 favorites from the shoot I did with her. I'm completely not used to cosplaying cute and shy characters, but what helped was that I was also not 100% comfortable in such a bare costume, even though I was wearing a bodysuit. I think that helped with pinning down the character, though!

View spoilerHide spoilerThe more I see these pictures, the more I like the background! It contrasts so nicely with the colors of the costume!

I also met up with a Roshi at the same convention and he was so completely in-character I couldn't stop laughing. Lots of people wanted to make pictures of us when we were talking and he even had a "master Roshi approves of this" sign with him. Unfortunately nobody I knew was photographing and I haven't found any pictures of this meetup afterwards. I really regret not asking my boyfriend to take some pictures from us with one of our phones. But on the other hand, my boyfriend was laughing like crazy too because of how in-character Roshi was, so we had lots of fun!

So, what now?

Well, as earlier mentioned, the costume started malfunctioning at the end of the day. So for this costume to be wearable again, I will have to remake and/or strengthen a lot of parts and to be honest I don't have much motivation for that right now and I prefer to move on to the next project. I sometimes wear my helmet or other parts seperately at lazy days on conventions, just because I like how they turned out.

Future plans

I have many future cosplay plans, but after my Chi-Chi costume I started quite quickly to work on my costume of Lilith from Darkstalkers:

http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/capcomdatabase/images/6/68/Darkstalkers3Lilith.png

Of which I recently debuted my first version together with my friend CYREN as my Morrigan! I'm currently making improvements on it and thinking again of maybe entering it in a competition!

Sorry for this incredibly long post, I hope you guys liked it and I hope to also see you at my next blog! It will probably be about my most recent Candysan order!

Ah, I see now... But, it is still a great effort there, Maakie-san. I loved seeing every progress you did on most of your blog post there.

secretly-otaku (3 år sedan) #4309249Hehe, I told you! Even if you were using a skin-colored suit, you would still feel like reveiling a bit too much :p. But you know what? when you got it, flaunt it! (see what I did there? :3). Soooo, Lilith Aensland is next, uh? Ok, she's cute but still has a bit of a sexy vibe, pretty much like Chi-chi. I see a pattern in here :3. I foresee a Kill La Kill cosplay coming your way someday in the future xD.

Argh! I know! But I'm still really glad that I eventually did in the end. :)

I realised I got the taste now of (slightly) sexy characters, oh man where have I gone wrong...well I guess Chi-Chi was already a step into the forbidden zone, lol! I like with Lilith how she comes over as very sexy, but is still quite clothed (she only has bare shoulders). My Ink cosplay even shows more skin and she is a cute schoolgirl!

I haven't watched Kill La Kill (yet), but I don't see myself doing one of those super-bare transformed outfits if that was what you were trying to say, lol!

gemelli (3 år sedan) #4338482Your Chi-Chi cosplay came out really well. It was fun to see its construction as well! :D

Thank you very much! :D I always like to make overviews/stories like this as it's also a good diary and memory for myself about such a huge project. :)

RockGodItachi (3 år sedan) #4175738Awesome Cosplay Maakie! loved seeing how this came together from scratch and the end results. The pics you did are cool too! :)

Thank you very much for liking it! :D

Chi-Chi was quite a different project for me, I'm already more comfortable with my Lilith, haha!

eiszeitshinigami (3 år sedan) #4151982Definitely looking forward to seeing your Lilith progress too ^_^ I’m curious as well as how you’re going to do the wings.
The colors totally fit. Dragon Ball’s color scheme was always very bright and bold. I like it too.
I’ve considered writing up a glove tutorial eventually since I wanted to toss one together for Sora’s (since a tutorial for that is non-existent) XD I’ve come across a few here and there. Though the best ones I've come across are this one and this one just to list a few. I'm more of a visual person since I have to be able to see things from all angles ^^;
Same. Another one I like to watch is Kamui Cosplay. Her tips are pretty good as well.

The first version of the wings were functioning enough, but not that great, so I hope to improve them soon. :) It's on the backburner right now, because I'm possibly moving soon and preparing a lot.

In some of the newer games and media young Chi-Chi's design has more blue-ish green, so I got quite some comments why I didn't go for that color version, but I think this bold green is a lot better.

The first tutorial I don't know, thanks for linking! The 2nd one I don't know, but I didn't try in a long time. xD I saved both of them. Still, they make it look way easier than it is!!!

Ah, Kamui I'm a bit mixed about tbh. A friend of mine bought her pattern book and I looked into it...it was quite a letdown... ^^''

Kamui herself I did meet, she was a judge at the competition where I entered my Elizabeth costume. :)

Maakie (3 år sedan) #4151857Yeah, it took me a long time to sort all the pictures out and write this up. >.<
Thanks! :) I got both positive and negative reactions on my color choice, but I think it looks very 80's, so I like it!
Pffrtt, do you have a special tutorial or method or something for gloves? So much people make it look so easy, but I hate them so much. >.>
Normally I'm not the type for video-tutorials (I prefer pictures), but when a friend showed me his Youtube channel I was hooked!

eiszeitshinigami (3 år sedan) #4151845Yay! You posted them :) I love seeing WIP's of other Cosplayers works and how things are built ^_^ I know I've said it once already, but I really like how your Chi Chi came out ^_^ really colorful and vibrant just like the series. I totally share the frustration of making gloves though. They appear simple at first, but are really the most annoying part of any outfit to sew up ^^;; *shifty eyes Ed gloves for starters* They're always the first thing I make since they usually take 5 + times to fit properly x.x;
Ted's tutorials are really great and super helpful. I've been visiting his channel for the last couple of months to get ideas on how to handle a few props for upcoming Cosplays. ^_^
