How I waste my time: Doujin labelsHow I waste my time: Doujin labels

Heya MFC folks! \o/

Today I'm gonna bother you with my new silly "hobby": doujin labels.

As many collectors know, when you collect doujins it can be difficult to keep it organized. Luckily, I don't collect comics, only artbooks, so I can keep them classified in files.

But while some of them have romanized covers, or even english names, there are several others with kanjis. That doesn't really help, especially when you're unable to read them ^^'

So I've decided to print labels for my doujins (all of them, even the romanized ones, because I like my stuff to be "clean"). At the beginning I was like "Okay, nothing too fancy, just the artist's name and title".

Then it became "Just in case I take a couple of doujins out of the file, let's add the cover on the label, just to be sure it'll go on the right place".

That was the beginning of the trap I've set myself x)

After that, the sh*tstorm of useless ideas blew me away from the initial "nothing too fancy" concept. It started with a label color close to the cover, to make it look neat. Then it became more elaborated backgrounds. And the fonts had to look like those used on the covers... Everytime it was a bit more.

To be honest, I know this is ridiculous, but I can't help it! Now that I've started, there's no escape, simple labels have no place on my collection :(

Here are some of my favorite results. Of course I don't pretend they're awesome, I know they're far from that. But they satisfy me, which is a good start :p

As you can see, some are quite simple, some are more elaborated. But in most cases, I try to stick to the theme as much as possible °° Of course, even the R-18 doujins have their own labels :p

This is just a small part of my collection of course, it would be way too heavy otherwise xD

If some fellow doujin collector read this, I'd like to know how you keep your collection organized. Have you a similar system with files and labels or do you just put the doujins on a shelf?

Thank you ^^

If it's hidden under your bed, I guess these doujins are not really SFW xD Well, at least you make sure they don't take damages so it should be okay. Just take them out of their sleeves sometimes to avoid the plastic smell °°

Gorgeous work!

If only there was a method to the madness that is my doujinshi collection >_< I just have them in stacks by series (*cough* under my bed) separated by pairing. I don't re-read them all that often so I guess it works alright XD I suppose the most I do is make sure the top and bottom ones have sleeves.

Moro (3 år sedan) #3323860I have a fairly large collection, but I just keep them neatly stacked, each one in its own plastic protective sleeve. Other than the one doujin artbook, which lives with my other artbooks.
So you also use plastic sleeves o.o Because my labels are of course on the sleeves, I don't put them on the covers (That would be heresy!!).

bambipie (3 år sedan) #3323963YadaP, pisuke and miyabi are my favs. Really well designed. Sorry no help tho!
Haha thanks ^^ Yadapoteto's was a pain to make actually, but yeah the result is not bad ;p

moonlight119 (3 år sedan) #3324140I haven't really got enough time to organise my stuff so I've kept them in their boxes they're shipped in. It's because when I try to organise them, I end up reading most of them and postponing my chore. The day ends with me packing them back to their boxes. XD I do plan to arrange them according to pairings then artists, and storing them individually in protective sleeves. I also need to find a storage box with pointed corners.
I don't think I'll need labels such as these, though. I'm familiar with the artist's style so I recognise them just by the cover. Ah, but it would be useful for me in a way that, instead of doujin title and artist names, I'd put summaries on them.

I definitely recomend you to use sleeves when you'll have the time to rearrange them ;) Labels with summaries can be a good idea indeed :3

theyasminshow (3 år sedan) #3324239My doujin shelf is set like
[artbooks] [R18 doujin] [all other doujin]
They're organized by either artist/circle or theme ex. Sonico books, wooser books. It works for organization but because most books are thin, it's hard to find the specific one I want quickly. Still working on how to manage that, lol.

For now mines are organised on big files, classified by artist name (when it's possible). R-18 are in a separated opaque file, to make sure my young cousins can't see them by accident, even though they never looked at my doujins it's always better to be cautious ^^' Good luck on your search for a better organization ;)
